The one rule
A table cannot be booked twice for overlapping times. Two parties in one doorway is the mistake that costs an evening, so the check runs inside the same transaction as the booking — two hosts on the phone at once cannot both win.
A booking with no table is fine, and normal: that is one the host places on the night.
