Back to the supplier

A bad delivery is the supplier's, not the kitchen's. Recorded as a return so it never lands on the waste report.

A return with no cause is a count adjustment wearing a better name, and the supplier will ask.

Between branches

Two movements written together — out of one branch and into the other, in a single transaction, so stock cannot leave somewhere and arrive nowhere.

Off the shelf, unsold

Spoilage, breakage, a prep error. The Inventory screen has offered a "Record waste" button since the first release and it has never been wired to anything — the service behind it worked the whole time, and pressing the button did nothing at all.

A reason is required. Unexplained shrinkage is the thing a waste log exists to make visible, and a log full of blanks makes it invisible again.
